Abbott and Costello Volume 3

This is the third “best of” collection from Abbott and Costello that’s been released to DVD, and it’s got some real classics on it. This really is quite a bargain for A&C fans as you get eight movies in one package for around $20. Included in this set are:

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
Mexican Hayride
Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff
Abbott and Costello in the Foreign Legion
Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man
Comin’ Round the Mountain
Lost in Alaska
Abbott and Costello Go to Mars

I haven’t had time to watch all eight films yet, but the two that I have screened were quite good. The transfer quality is amazing when you consider these movies are over 50 years old! Very little dust and artifacts were noticed, and the picture was quite sharp. The sound is mono of course, but since it was filmed that way I can’t really complain about it. I’m sure it would have been much worse if the studio had tried to add in special effects and a new soundtrack!

If you are a fan of Abbott and Costello then you owe it to yourself to pick this up, and even if you don’t know if you’re a fan or not, for $20 it’s worth a shot! These guys are legends, give it a look and you’ll understand why.
