movies for guys dvd review Clear and Present Danger
Rated: PG-13
Runtime: 2 hr. 21 min.
Starring: Harrison Ford, Anne Archer, Willem Dafoe, James Earl Jones, Joaquim de Almeida

MFG Rating: 4/5

DVD Features

Video: Not widescreen enhanced, but otherwise the picture is extremely good.

Audio: Watch out, it defaults to Dolby Digital 2.0 although DD 5.1 is available. The soundtrack is surprisingly good considering the age of the movie and the DVD.

Extras: You get a trailer and nothing else.

DVD Quick Take

Clear and Present Danger marks the return of Dr. Jack Ryan to the movies for a third time. Like Patriot Games, this time Ryan is played by Harrison Ford. The good Doctor finds himself unraveling a plot involving the Columbian drug cartel this time out.

This film was transferred to DVD at the same time as Patriot Games and consequently shares the exact same attributes both positive and negative. This means we're looking at a normal letterbox version even on a widescreen set as the movie is not anamorphically enhanced. However, the picture is excellent. Likewise, the Dolby Digital 5.1 track provides wonderful audio and some good booms this time out as well. But again, DD 5.1 is not the default, so be sure to select it before you start viewing.

If you're a Tom Clancy or Harrison Ford fan, get this DVD. If you're not familiar with Jack Ryan, go check out The Hunt for Red October to meet him, although he's played by Alec Baldwin instead of Ford in that film.

Drug lords, special forces, lots of shooting!

Blood & Gore

Very little considering the number of people getting capped.

Car Chases

Only one chase, and it's in Suburbans!

T&A

Not so much as a decent cleavage shot.

Chuckles

Admiral Greer is good for a couple of chuckles.
