Exit Wounds
Rated: R
Runtime: 1hr 55min
Starring: Steven Seagal, DMX, Isaiah Washington, Tom Arnold, Anthony Anderson

MFG Rating: 4/5

DVD Features

Video: DVD is enhanced for widescreeen TV's and has an excellent picture, no flaws that I saw.

Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 with excellent use of the surround during the action scenes, and there are a lot of action scenes.

Extras: A making of documentary, a day on the set with T.K. (Anthony Anderson), trailer and the DMX music video "Ain't No Sunshine." For some reason they put the MTV version of the video on the disk, so all the naughty words have been removed. That makes a heck of a lot of sense on an R rated DVD.

Is Steven Seagal back? You bet he is! After getting chunky and making some really bad tree hugging movies, he has cut off his pony tail, lost the pajama shirts, gotten into shape and is back to doing what he does best. And that would be breaking bones, popping caps and generally kicking tail inbetween softly spoken wise cracks. We went into this flick not expecting much and were very pleasantly surprised!

Exit Wounds Steven Seagal and DMXExit Wounds features Seagal as a renegade cop who is a good guy and gets the job done but stays in trouble for excessive violence and a lack of respect for authority and procedure. He lands in a bad precinct and before you know it finds himself trying to clean up the neighborhood while taking on street gangs, drug dealers and bad cops pretty much all by himself. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Ok, so it's a formula piece, but this is the Seagal we like.

He's accompanied in this film by rapper DMX and a few other familiar faces including Tom Arnold who is absolutely hilarious. Be sure not to walk out of the theater before the credits as Tom's bit while the credits roll just may make you wet your pants. The real co-stars of this movie though are the cars and the action sequences. We get to see some really nice cars, some excellent chases and lots of wrecks and gun play. And yes there were even some tah tahs. Look at our stats to the right, and you'll see this movie has all of the things we like!

There are no real slow spots, the movie barely gives you a chance to catch your breath. However, it is not without a few flaws. First off, we once again see some martial arts sequences cheating and stealing some of the special effects from The Matrix. They also really got carried away trying to run two fight sequences simultaneously. It's really tough to keep up when they keep bouncing back and forth between two totally separate fights being fought with different styles at the same time.

We really didn't expect much out of this movie. However, after seeing it we actually had some serious discussion about whether this movie is worthy of our rare 5 star rating. We settled on 4 stars, but it's a very strong 4 stars. This is one of those movies that makes me wish we had half star ratings, so we could give it 4 1/2. Yes, it's that good unbelievable as it seems. I will put the caveat on that of saying that if you did not like classic Seagal films such as Under Siege and Hard To Kill, you probably aren't a fan of the genre and will not like this either. But if non-stop action, hot cars and seeing Seagal do very painful looking things to the human body appeals to you, go see it now.
