DVD Quick Take

This is one of the alltime best movies. Even those who are offended by the violence, language and very adult themes cant help but admit that this is a great movie. The story here is basically a collection of subplots, mostly involving underworld characters, that keep intersecting, and to say any more than that would really take away from the movie if you've never seen it before.

The movie features an allstar cast and marks the big comeback of John Travolta who had not had a true box office hit in years prior to this movie. And the film is the masterpiece of Quentin Tarantino. If you like any of Tarantino's other works, you'll love this. If you do not like them, then you'll likely hate this movie.

The DVD itself is average at best. First off, there were no extra features. You would think Tarantino would at least provide some commentary. Also the video, though sharp, is not available in wide screen enhanced, so you're going to see letterbox even on a widescreen set. And the sound is in Dolby Digital 5.1 and does an excellent job with the music, but even the action sequences do not use the rear speakers.

However, the magic of this movie is the music and dialog, and it is still one of the best movies ever made, and for that reason I strongly recommend the DVD even though they could've done alot more with it.

No chases, but a couple of good fast car scenes.

Some good upclose cleavage, but that's it.

What humor is there is very dark and twisted.
