After the Sunset

Rated: PG-13 Runtime: 100 min Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

After the Sunset is a bit of an opposite for us. Normally if we find a female who is in season that we want to treat to a movie beforehand, we try to find a guy movie that is “date friendly”. After the Sunset is really a romance, but they mixed in enough action and comedy to make it “guy friendly”, so the ladies dont have to smack us for playing video games on our cellphones halfway through the movie. In short, this is an excellent date movie and a lot of fun for both guys and gals alike.

After the Sunset

Pierce Brosnan stars as one of the world’s best diamond thieves. Oh, but he does not work alone, he has the absolutely smoking Salma Hayek as his partner. After one last big heist they decide to retire to Paradise Island. But temptation comes knocking when a cruise ship carrying the only one of the three Napolean Diamonds that they have not stolen docks at their island for a few days. Also arriving at the island is Woody Harrelson who plays the FBI agent that our thieving couple has made a habit of making look foolish as he has pursued them on other heists.

This all makes for a great cat and mouse caper story and all of the stars have a nice chemistry together. This is almost a stereotypical role for Brosnan as he plays a suave, cool, Bond-like character with a few tweaks. Woody is in good form and steals a few scenes. And then there’s Salma. The beach backdrop insures that we get to see lots and lots of Salma! She teases us mercilessly for the entire movie.

There are very few flaws in this movie. We would of course have liked them to cut back on the romance just a touch and up the action a tad, maybe throw in an explosion or two. And we would’ve liked to have seen even more of Salma. But we can’t really complain. The movie did not drag and although the story was perhaps a tad predictable they kept throwing twists at us and kept us interested. And what a setting for a movie! The cinematography captured the beauty of Paradise Island very nicely.

We’re giving After the Sunset 4 stars. This is one of the best date movies we’ve seen in a long time. The movie was a lot of fun, and I think virtually anyone of any age group will enjoy it. And we would encourage you to see the eye candy this movie presents on the big screen. Find yourself a date and go see it.
