American Pie 2

With the success of American Pie we all knew there would be a sequel. Unfortunately as with most sequels, American Pie 2 doesn’t live up to its predecessor. That’s not to say it’s a bad movie, far from it, there’s just not much original material here.
We start off a year after American Pie ended with the whole gang coming home from their first year in college. Everyone’s back, even The Sherminator, and nobody has changed a bit. Stifler is still Stifler, Oz is still a lovesick puppy and Jim’s a clumsy dork. I think that’s one of the biggest problems with this movie… there was no character growth. None. Nada.
That may have been the point though as the guys are given a chance to do a little growing up in this film, but it’s so predicable that it’s just not that interesting. Buy hey, you aren’t going to see AP2 for a deep story, you’re going for the gags! In this respect you won’t be disappointed.
As you’ve seen in the previews, Jim’s dad is back, and he’s back better than ever. There’s also numerous gross out gags that will have you rolling and retching at the same time. And Stifler is funny regardless of what he’s doing.
To sum up, it’s funny, but not as funny as the first one. The characters are the same friendly people we got to know last time, and while they grow a tad during the movie this doesn’t turn into some sappy drama at the end. However I don’t really want to see them get together for their first summer after graduating from college, so let’s hope they don’t make American Pie 3.
Seen it? How many stars do you give it?
