Austin Powers in Goldmember
December 9, 2004
Rated: PG-13 Runtime: 93 min Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
The first 5-10 minutes of Austin Powers in Goldmember are worth the price of admission alone! Unfortunately, that’s all I can say about the opening sequence without spoiling it. This movie is full of surprises and cool cameos, so be careful what you read and who you talk to as the movie is much more effective if you do not know what’s coming.
Goldmember is the third in the Austin Powers series. All of our favorite characters are back. And once again, Doctor Evil is out to destroy the world, this time with the help of another truly twisted villain named Goldmember. And of course it is up to Austin Powers to stop them and save the world.
For those of you who have been under a rock, the Austin Powers movies are a spoof of spy movies, especially James Bond. We suspected that they might have went to the well once too often by doing a third movie. But they have plenty of extremely funny new gags and they even spoof themselves at some points. When the movie does use some of the bits that have been in the previous two films, they acknowledge it and make fun of themselves for doing so.
If you’re a fan of the first two Austin Powers movies, we think you’ll like this one as well. There are not only some great new bits, but the film also benefits from a larger budget. The only problem we have with the movie is that there are a few stagnant parts where there are no laughs and the movie really drags during those periods. But there’s more than enough funny parts and new stuff to make this addition to the Austin Powers series worthwhile.
Seen it? How many stars do you give it?
