Big Momma’s House

Rated: PG-13 Runtime: 90 min Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

I knew I shouldn’t have bothered watching this movie. To be fair, it wasn’t the worst hour and a half of my life, at least the theater was comfortable.

Big Momma's House

Martin Lawrence plays FBI Special Agent Malcolm Turner, an agent good enough with disguises to make Ethan Hunt proud. His current assignment is to catch a bank robber who recently escaped from jail in hopes of recovering the missing money.

Figuring he’ll try to hook up with his old girlfriend who worked at the bank, Malcolm stakes out her grandmothers house in hopes she’ll turn up. When Big Mamma leaves town to help a sick friend, Malcolm assumes her identity to try and get information from the girlfriend.

OK, so it’s not a great plot, but it serves its purpose which is simply to put Martin Lawrence in drag and keep him hopping from one sticky situation to another. Sometimes it’s pretty funny as in the church scene, but mostly the movie just drags along. I expected the movie to be stupid, what I didn’t expect was for it to be painfully boring as well.

Save your money, and rent it if you just have to see it. I suspect it will be on DVD later this fall.

Seen it? How many stars do you give it?
