Black and White

If it weren’t for film festivals, films like this would not exist. And that wouldn’t be a bad thing in this case.
I have never liked pretentious movies and James Toback’s “Black and White” is no exception. The film itself is a chaotic mix of “2nd tier” Hollywood stars, rap artists, sports figures, and supermodels all thrown together to show the intellectual snobs of the world just how much angst exists in the lives of hip-hop spewing gang-bangers as well as the lives of the spoiled, upper-class white bitches that they happen to be gang-banging.
From that last statement, you might be wondering if there is a lot of sex in the movie. The answer is an unqualified YES. If you’re into interracial three-ways, then this is your movie. The opening scene of the movie, in fact, gives us some pretty raunchy sex in New York’s Central Park. If that’s not your bag, however, then skip this one and wait for a slow day at your local video rental place.
Alas, it quickly goes downhill. The rest of the movie is just so much politically correct crap and, if not for the occasional gratuitous sex scenes as well as Mike Tyson’s scene-stealing performance, I’d be trying to find a way to give this movie zero stars.
Seen it? How many stars do you give it?
