Gift ideas for your favorite couch potato

Ok, so you have a guy on your christmas list, but you have no idea what to get him. Let's see if we can help by sharing some of the things on our wish list. All of these are guaranteed to make any guy grin from ear to ear and feel really guilty when he gives you the gift certificate that he bought at the last minute for you.

  • The Wire Season 1 -- This is the most overlooked series on TV. It's better than recent seasons of The Sopranos and now rivals The Shield as the best crime drama on TV. If he's not already hooked, he will be after he watches this set. Season 2 will be available on DVD in late January.

  • Deadwood Season 1 -- HBO does it again. We wondered what HBO was thinking when they attached a western to come on immediately after a new season of the Sopranos. Afterwards we found ourselves looking forward to Sunday night for Deadwood instead of The Sopranos. It also helped us enhance our vocabulary!

  • Ultimate Matrix Collection -- The Matrix ranks among our alltime favorite films, and the entire series is a must see for any guy. This is a limited release and contains all things related to the matrix including the animated shorts that proceeded the release of the final 2 movies from the series.

  • Star Wars Trilogy -- If there is a single must-own box set, this is it. Long ago, in a studio far away, before Lucas sold out and created Jar Jar Binks, the best movie trilogy ever was created. This one is also a relative bargain.

  • Sony DVD Player -- What? You say your guy doesn't even have a DVD player yet? Hook him up! They're cheap now. Don't even consider the piles of junk in the middle of the aisle at the Mega-Lo-Mart, you can have a real Sony with progressive scan for under $75.

  • Tivo -- Does he still watch TV live? Get him one of these DVR players, and you'll change his life forever. The price is under $100 after rebate. You may never see him again.

  • Samsung 56-inch DLP TV -- So your guy has been really good this year and money's no object? First off, drop us an email, we wanna be on your christmas list. Then check out this DLP set, it's perfect for both DVDs and HDTV.

Since it's already October, how about a list for the coming Christmas. You know all the stores already have Christmas stuff.

On the DVD front, how come there are no reviews of some of Rodriguez's earlier classics like Desperado, Once upon a Time in Mexico or From Dusk until Dawn (after all a bar named the Titty Twister just cries out to be reviewed here). I just watched the above plus the original "El Mariachi" in a great marathon session. Of course, you loved his latest "Sin City"
