Movie Dead Zone

It is the time of the year all movie goers hate to see... Winter. The holiday season power houses are gone and the summer blockbusters are not quite finished cooking so what's coming that will be worth your hard earned cash from January to April? I will give you 4 movies that we here @ MFG will be seeing. That's right class, 4. I can only hope something else will come along that has slipped past our radar or this is going to be a boring uneventful time for us and you.

January 7th - White Noise: A promising thriller starring Michale Keaton about the dead speaking beyond the grave through that automatic jar opener you bought your loving wife over Christmas.

January 14th - Daredevil2/Elektra 1.5: Jennifer (smokin hotty) Garner dawns an all leather costume and does flips for 2 hours. Works for me.

January 21st - Assualt on Precinct 13: This is a remake of a low budget classic from 1976 about a gang of thugs that attack a closing police precinct. Cops and criminals (no one of importance) alike are forced to fight the mob outside to survive. The 2005 version flips the script and instead of street thugs, the cops and criminals (Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburn) fight crooked cops.

March 11th - Hostage: Bruce Willis plays a hostage negotiator that must trade his family for the one in the house and recover something or they die. Looks cool but has the potential to suck.

I wish there was more but this is it for what I care to check out this time of the year BUT... it is January and the NFL playoffs is a welcome distraction until mid February. After that summer is just around the corner and the blockbuster's return.

The Reason

Tis the season for last minute Christmas shopping. I went "near" a mall this weekend. It was bad enough. I really want to see Oceans Twelve instead. Maybe I really should get up and leave the shop to go take a look. I still want to see Spongebob too but just can't make myself go... and now that school's probably out... Ugh. Wait for the DVD I guess.

Gift ideas for your favorite couch potato

Ok, so you have a guy on your christmas list, but you have no idea what to get him. Let's see if we can help by sharing some of the things on our wish list. All of these are guaranteed to make any guy grin from ear to ear and feel really guilty when he gives you the gift certificate that he bought at the last minute for you.

  • The Wire Season 1 -- This is the most overlooked series on TV. It's better than recent seasons of The Sopranos and now rivals The Shield as the best crime drama on TV. If he's not already hooked, he will be after he watches this set. Season 2 will be available on DVD in late January.

  • Deadwood Season 1 -- HBO does it again. We wondered what HBO was thinking when they attached a western to come on immediately after a new season of the Sopranos. Afterwards we found ourselves looking forward to Sunday night for Deadwood instead of The Sopranos. It also helped us enhance our vocabulary!

  • Ultimate Matrix Collection -- The Matrix ranks among our alltime favorite films, and the entire series is a must see for any guy. This is a limited release and contains all things related to the matrix including the animated shorts that proceeded the release of the final 2 movies from the series.

  • Star Wars Trilogy -- If there is a single must-own box set, this is it. Long ago, in a studio far away, before Lucas sold out and created Jar Jar Binks, the best movie trilogy ever was created. This one is also a relative bargain.

  • Sony DVD Player -- What? You say your guy doesn't even have a DVD player yet? Hook him up! They're cheap now. Don't even consider the piles of junk in the middle of the aisle at the Mega-Lo-Mart, you can have a real Sony with progressive scan for under $75.

  • Tivo -- Does he still watch TV live? Get him one of these DVR players, and you'll change his life forever. The price is under $100 after rebate. You may never see him again.

  • Samsung 56-inch DLP TV -- So your guy has been really good this year and money's no object? First off, drop us an email, we wanna be on your christmas list. Then check out this DLP set, it's perfect for both DVDs and HDTV.
  • XXX2: State of the Union

I don't know what the worries are about Vin Diesel, he was obviously just taking a weird break from action movies to get psyched up for XXX 2!

What? That's not a Vin movie? Ice Cube is the new XXX?! Aw damn.

    New Trailer: Batman Begins

The new trailer for Batman Begins should be up on their website by the time you read this. It was playing in front of many movies at the theater this weekend. I fear this movie may be too dark for the non-comic fans who have flocked to Batman movies during the 90's. But we think this is going to rock:

    Batman Begins website

Speaking of trailers, check out the new Vin Diesel movie....

Vinny! What are ya thinking! Was Hulk Hogan not available?!?!

    Alfred Hitchcock and Salem's Lot

We have two more contests that you can enter starting today.

First up is the Alfred Hitchcock Signature Collection, a boxed set of 9 classic Hitchcock
films. JC gave it a 3 star review, but if you manage to win a free copy of this $75 collection I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Next is Salem's Lot, the updated mini-series version of the Stephen King movie. This
one is on my plate to review and I'll let you know what I think about it soon.

You'll notice that our contests have gotten a little harder, you actually
have to know a little trivia to win. We figure this will give the true fans
a little better odds of winning while still keeping the entry process as
    simple as possible.

    The Passion of the Zombies

    I'll take the Zombies...

We'll also be starting up a contest for The Office, hopefully later today, so be on the lookout!

    The unholy Trinity is complete

That's right gents we have seen it and it was GOOD!!! Blade Trinity review is coming early to moviesforguys thanks to our friends on the 'inside' which I might add is long before most of our competition.

We saw it early and tonight about 11:30 PM EST or so we will have it for you. This movie rocked, getting the full court press from us and got a whopping 5 stars. Loved it mucho.

Some other sites might disagree but since they suck we don't care what they think. This is a movie for guys and if you didn't like it go out and reserve your seat for Bridget Jones and accept your womanhood.

    See Ya!
