Miami Vice Movie

The first trailer for the Miami Vice movie is out as is the official movie site:

You'll have to bounce thru Bacardi's website to see the trailer, which is kinda ironic considering that their choices for Crockett and Tubbs remind me a lot of the cheesy Bacardi and Cola characters from their commercials.

The good news is Michael Mann is attached to write and direct. The bad news, no Johnson and Thomas to reprise their roles. In what is the norm for TV shows converted to movies, they're going for contemporary stars. In this case Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.

Foxx has become a fine actor. And Farrell, well, uhm....we liked him as Bullseye in DareDevil! However, Vice is all about style and feel of the 80's and the pastels of art deco Miami. Without the cotton jackets, big hair, Jan Hammer soundtrack along with other 80's music, it's just no the same. It's just a movie about drug runners that happens to have the same title as the TV show.

I think they missed the boat on this one, this is a movie identified with a specific time period that was a cultural icon. You cant drag it into the future and throw a modern cast at it and expect the same magic.
