Jarhead Extras

We received an early copy of Jarhead on DVD, and I'd be lying if I said I rushed home and popped it into the DVD player before I had dinner. No, this one sat there... eyeing me... telling me that dammit, you have to sit through me one more time.

See, while I was one of the guys around here that would have given it 4 stars based on the performances and production values, that doesn't mean I wanted to be bored for another hour (that would be the second hour snore-fest part of the movie.) But alas I drew the short straw so I made some popcorn and started watching it... again.

The movie actually wasn't as slow as I'd remembered it being but it was still pretty tedious near the end. The performances really were fantastic though and I swear I only called it "Brokeback Marines" a few times in my head and never out loud.

What is a standout on this DVD are the extras, or specifically the Jarhead Diaries section. This consists of a making of type situation but one that was shot in large part by the cast themselves. We get to see them go through boot camp, learning how to shoot and yes, Ray Charles makes a quick appearance. It really was interesting to watch, and that's saying something considering how many of these things I have to sit through.

The DVD rating retains the 3 stars the movie earned in theaters, but it's a strong 3 stars.
