Box Office Top 10; weekend of December 2nd
December 3, 2007
For the second week in a row, Disney ‘Enchanted’ moviegoers (yeah, I know that joke sucked; no need to email me about it) and they flocked to the theaters to the tune of $17 million to win this first weekend of December. In a deja-vu moment, the next two films maintained their previous positions on the chart for the second straight week, too. This Christmas stuck around at #2 and Beowulf clung to the #3 spot.
Jessica Alba’s new attempt at success, Awake, debuted in fourth place with barely more than $6 million, a major disappointment considering industry observers were expecting closer to a $10 million draw. Keep on chuggin’, Jessica. You’ll have a hit eventually!
The rest of the top ten consists of leftovers that are more stale than the ones from Thanksgiving that are still in your refrigerator. The only thing there worth mentioning is the re-listing of No Country for Old Men, back in at #8 after dropping out of the top 10 for a week.
That’s it! The holiday doldrums continue for the Hollywood box office. Perhaps the release of The Golden Compass this week can help the industry shake the cobwebs off a bit. And, fyi, here’s the full top 10 list:
1. “Enchanted,” $17 million.
2. “This Christmas,” $8.4 million.
3. “Beowulf,” $7.9 million.
4. “Awake,” $6 million.
5. “Hitman,” $5.8 million.
6. “Fred Claus,” $5.6 million.
7. “August Rush,” $5.2 million.
8. “No Country for Old Men,” $4.5 million.
9. “Bee Movie,” $4.47 million.
10. “American Gangster,” $4.3 million.
