Cabin Fever

Rated: R Runtime: 94 min Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Cabin Fever stars Rider Strong and Jordan Ladd. Is it just me or does that sound like a porn movie? Actually this is a horror movie with a plot and characters only slightly less believable than those you’ll find in the average porno. Or so I hear.

Cabin Fever

We’re not quite sure whether the movie was trying to be a serious horror movie or a comedic parody and spoof of the genre. It succeeds at both but doesn’t exactly master either. It both made us laugh out loud a couple of times and also managed to totally gross out the young girls sitting several rows behind us. You know the visuals in a horror movie are good when someone stupid enough to bring a young child to it has to get up and leave. Serves ‘em right, but I digress.

The plot and characters are predictable. A group of college kids rent out a cabin for a post exam blow out. In the group we have a drunk, a butthole with a hot girlfriend, the good girl and the weenie guy who she has been teasing to death since the 7th grade. The locals are, well, something just this side of Deliverance and provide much of the humor in the movie. While out in the woods, a diseased man crashs the party, his skin is rotting off. And you guessed it, he’s contagious.

Cabin Fever is not a good movie, but as fans of the old school horror movies we were entertained. They worked in most of the trademarks of the genre including bare breasts and the occasional bucket full of blood. But this movie definitely doesn’t take itself seriously, you’ll know this anytime any of the locals are on screen or the characters do something stereotypically stupid like being unable to resist poking would-be dead bodies with a stick, literally.

If you’re a serious fan of horror, we think you’ll enjoy the film, so we’re giving it 3 stars. Everyone else should probably pass on this one unless you have some small children you want to gross out and give nightmares too. Apparently that’s a new fad based on the number of parents we see bringing the kids to 10PM showings of R-rated horror movies, but again I digress.

Seen it? How many stars do you give it?
