Road Trip
Rated R
Runtime: 1hr 37min
Starring: Amy Smart, Breckin Meyer, Seann William Scott, Rachel Blanchard, Andy Dick

MFG Rating: 4/5

This movie just has to be compared with American Pie and There's Something About Mary, there's just no way to get around that. In short, it lands right in the middle... not quite as good as Mary, and a little better than Pie.

Josh (Breckin Meyer) and his girlfriend Tiffany (Rachel Blanchard) have been a couple since they were little kids. Unfortunately when college comes around they end up going to different schools, and try to maintain a long distance relationship. When Josh can't get Tiffany to call him back after leaving several message, and getting one really rude comment from her roommate he starts to think she's cheating on him... enter Beth (Amy Smart), a really cute girl that wants Josh real bad. They end up getting it on, and in a fit of kinkyness Beth talks him into videotaping the episode.

Before all of this started Josh had been making a video to send to Tiffany, one of those mushy love things that no self-respecting guy would ever do, or at least would never admit to doing. As you know from the previews the tapes get swapped and Josh and his buddies end up on an 1800 mile road trip to retrieve the tape before Tiffany sees it.

To attempt to explain the jokes would be futile, just as futile as trying to explain what is was about There's Something About Mary that kept everyone in stitches. Suffice it to say they mix in a big helping of Mary, throw in a dash of American Pie, and sprinkle it with various Farrelly spices and end up with a damn funny movie.

I wasn't expecting this movie to knock my socks off, but it did. It's very very close to a 5 star movie, but its not quite as good as Mary and thus in my mind can't have the same rating. If we had a half star, this movie would rate 4.5.
