Quick Take
Surely
you've seen this movie at least a dozen times on TV? If so, and
you've never actually seen it uncut, it's worth a rental just to
see all of the tah tahs they cut out of the broadcast version. I
had forgotten just how many breasts we do get to see in this movie.
Other
than the tah tahs, what we have here is a Bill Murray movie. This
time Bill and Harold Ramis team up as two losers who decide to get
their life in order by joining the Army. And this serves as the
backdrop for Murray to be his wise-ass self at the expense of the
Army establishment. You'll find a great ensemble of supporting actors
here, many in their first feature film role including John Candy,
John Laroquette, Judge Reinhold, Sean Young and John Diehl.
The
picture quality is darned impressive for a movie this old, they
actually anamorphically enhanced it for widescreen set owners and
did a good job. However as good as the video is, the sound is awful.
Being that it's a comedy it really doesn't take away from the movie,
and this is a mono release after all.
You
know the movie, you've probably seen it dozens of times, but if
you haven't seen it lately, and especially if you haven't seen it
uncut, this DVD is at least worth a rental.
