DVD Quick Take
This is a brilliant movie based on the Carl Sagan novel. Director Robert Zemeckis is teamed with star Jodie Foster to produce a movie based on what Carl felt would be the most likely scenario for first contact with extraterrestrials.
Our “no spoiler” policy is in full effect on this movie because if you haven’t seen it already to tell you too much about the plot will definitely hurt your enjoyment of watching this beautiful piece of work unfold before your eyes. Suffice to say you get a little bit of everything though ranging from some outstanding special effects to suspense and even a dash of romance as we follow Jodie’s character’s search for alien life.
The DVD is considered to be reference quality by many people despite being one of the oldest DVD releases out there. I’m hard pressed to argue against that. This is a great movie for showing off what DVD can do in terms of video and sound. It makes good use of surround sound without being as over the top as many action and scifi movies. And perhaps most importantly this is a great movie. This movie should be a cornerstone of the scifi section of your DVD collection.
Seen it? How many stars do you give it?
