Daredevil

Rated: PG-13 Runtime: 102 min Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Daredevil is the latest superhero to leap from the pages of comic books onto the big screen. Although not as well known as Superman, Batman or Spiderman, this movie has a big budget and big stars. And the result is a fun ride.
Ben Affleck stars as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer by day and masked superhero Daredevil by night. Affleck playing a character named Matt amused us a bit. We’re now waiting for Matt Damon to play a character named Ben. But I digress. As is tradition with the first big screen appearance of a comic book character, we’re walked thru the character’s origin. In this case, it was thankfully kept relatively short so we could get to the action.
We wont spoil the movie for anyone who isn’t familiar with Daredevil’s origins, but the short version is he was blinded by toxic biochemicals as a kid which left him blind. Although he lost his sight, his remaining 4 senses were left with heightened super sensitivity. He can hear an ant’s flatulence. He can also smell the perfume on a babe from over a block away through closed doors. We were left wondering about his other senses. What happens if he tastes a hot Krispy Kreme doughnut? And what about that heightened sense of touch during sex? But I once again digress.
Ok, so we meet Daredevil, and then the movie jumps straight into the action with him pursuing supervillains named Bullseye and Kingpin. Kingpin is played by the huge Michael Clark Duncan while Bullseye is played by the scene stealing Colin Farrell. Bullseye is one of the best villains we’ve seen on screen in a long time. Matt, err Ben, err whatever, our hero also has a few friends including the hot Jennifer Garner as Electra Natchios. And Jon Favreau steals a few scenes as well playing the lawyer buddy “Foggy”.
This movie is exactly what it should be, a fun ride. If you are a fan of Daredevil or just comic book action in general, you’ll enjoy this movie. And this is one that should really be enjoyed on the big screen, so we give it 4 stars. Go check it out.
Seen it? How many stars do you give it?
