Dawn of the Dead
December 11, 2004
Rated: Unrated Runtime: 110 min Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
If you’re in the mood for a zombie flick, it’s hard to go wrong with this remake of Dawn of the Dead. It’s got everything from exploding heads to annoying mall security, and a wry sense of humor that won’t have you laughing out loud, but will make you smile.
We know the general story here, “something” happens and people start becoming zombies. Zombies make more zombies by biting the living, etc. etc. The nice thing about this movie is there’s virtually no set up time a all. Seriously, you’ll have your first zombie kill in a matter of minutes, and it’s not happening via a flashback or some crap like that. This movie starts with action and does a decent job of keeping it going the entire time.
You certainly won’t be disappointed with the blood and gore factor either, especially in this Unrated edition. Two things we’re cut back into the movie for this DVD release, a little bit of character development, and a lot more blood. We liked both, and this should have been the version released in theaters. We do wish they’d cut in a little more T&A though, we’re pretty sure the director must have shot some.
In the final judgment this movie gets a pretty solid 4 star rating. It doesn’t hit 5 simply because it isn’t the type of thing you’re going to just pop into the DVD player over and over again. There are some slow spots, and some of the plot developments are just plain annoying, but if you’re into horror flicks you need to own this one.
Seen it? How many stars do you give it?
