QuickTake
Finally,
the Godfather trilogy is available on DVD! Godfather and Godfather
II are typically ranked at or near the top of any serious movie
buffs alltime best movie lists, myself included. Despite the long
length of these films I still watch them over and over again. The
DVD collection also includes Godfather III, which is worth watching
even though it lacks some of the magic of the first two films. But
being realistic this collection is worth every penny even if you
consider the third movie a throw away.
The
entire collection is beautifully remastered onto DVD. The picture
is widescreen enhanced and looks amazing considering the age of
the film. And the sound was remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1. I never
noticed it touching my rear speakers at all, but they did an excellent
job of using the front sound stage to put you in the movie. Unlike
many classic films they did not simply put dialog in the center
and music to the sides. You'll find subtle touchs like a fireplace
crackling to the front left of the room when the fireplace in the
scene is to the front left of the stage. And the music from the
soundtrack which adds so much to these films is absolutely perfect.
Like
extras? Well, you'll love this set. Of the 5 DVDs in the box, one
is nothing but extras. It includes everything you could possibly
want to know about the movies and the Corleone family. The films
themselves are the theatrical releases, but deleted scenes and the
additional footage shot for "The Godfather Saga" are included
in the extras.
Quite
simply, if you're a fan of The Godfather movies, this box set belongs
in your collection.
