QuickTake
What
would you do if someone put up a website pretending to be you? Now,
imagine there's details on the site that make it obvious this person
knows you real well. Something like that might tend to make you
a little paranoid, don't you think?
Perfect
Blue is a story about Mima, a Japanese "pop idol" who
is making the transformation from singer to actress. Apparently
one of her fans is less than thrilled by her change in public personality
and wants her to go back to singing. Add to this the mysterious
website, Mima's own mixed feelings about the change in persona,
and an eerie parallel between Mima's situation and that of the character
she's playing and you end up with a very interesting story. At times
you won't know what's reality, and what is only in Mima's head...
and that's the fun in this movie. Just when you think you've caught
up, you realize you still don't know what's really going on.
The
DVD itself is pretty good, though the voice acting is a little weak
to say the least. If you don't find it difficult to read subtitles
I suggest you listen to the Japanese soundtrack and read along.
Even
if you're not a fan of anime in general, or if you've never really
watched any, this movie should entertain you. Like Ghost in the
Shell, this movie is made for mainstream fans, not just those into
anime.

Gun Play
Knives
and ice picks, but no guns.
Blood & Gore
It
may be animated, but there's a pretty good about of blood in
the movie.
Car Chases
Not
a chase to be found.
T&A
There's
even some pubic hair, something quite rare in anime.
Chuckles
I
don't recall cracking a smile, except at some of the voice acting. |
