Rock Star
Rated R
Runtime: 1 hours 46minutes
Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Jennifer Aniston, Dominic West, Timothy Spall, Timothy Olyphant

MFG Rating: 4/5

DVD Features

Video: Widescreen enhanced with an excellent picture. Not a single complaint.

Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1, and you're gonna want to turn it up if you're a fan of '80s hair metal.

Extras: The DVD falls short in the extras department. Just a tiny bit of behind the scenes stuff and a trailer. No deleted scenes, no making-of, nothing.

Every kid grows up wanting to be a rock star at some point in his life. Admit it, you sang along with the radio in your room, fantasizing about being on stage in front of thousands of scream fans... and girls who would do anything to get to know you a little better.

OK, so this doesn't happen for the vast majority of us, but Rock Star shows that it can happen to some of us. Forget the "follow your dreams and they will come true" junk the movie pushes at you, we all know that's an odds game few win, but we can enjoy watching it happen to others if for no other reason but to see what's not so good about the lifestyle we were unable to obtain.

Mark Wahlberg is Chris Coles, lead singer of a Steel Dragon tribute band called Blood Pollution. He's quite meticulous about how his band plays the songs, so much so that his fellow band mates end up kicking him out for being such a PITA. No worries though as the real Steel Dragon gets a hold of a tape of Chris singing and ends up hiring him to replace their recently fired singer.

I'm not telling you anything you haven't seen in the previews of course, and you can easily figure out the rest of the movie without even seeing it. However, this is a formula movie that works, so being able to figure out plot lines isn't as bad as it sounds. This movie could easily work on a home theater system without any loss of quality as long as your system has great sound. If that's not the case, you owe it to yourself to head out to your local megaplex and see this on the big screen.
