Entrapment
December 11, 2004
Rated: PG-13 Runtime: 112 min Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
There is some great plot twists, back-stabbing and all of the things you’d expect from a good action thriller in this movie so I wont be able to tell you too much about the plot without spoiling it. And we hate spoilers here at Movies For Guys!
Sean Connery plays an aging art thief who gets hooked up with a young “protege” to pull off the largest heist in history. One of the many twists is that this young protege happens to be the young gorgeous Catherine Zeta-Jones. And as you’d expect a very interesting May-December relationship develops, so you can take a date to this one and not have to put up with them fidgeting too much.
The cinematography and choreography of the big scenes in this film are first rate. The opening scene is a particularly well done sequence. You’ll want to see this on the big screen or on wide screen DVD. This is not a fast paced edge of your seat action movie, I mean afterall, Sean Connery is what, 98 years old now? However, he’s still in better shape than most of us and pulls off this role quite convincingly. The action sequences that are in the movie are very well done, and the plot inbetween is at least tolerable despite the smacks of romance that works it’s way into the Connery/Zeta-Jones relationship.
I’ve yet to see a movie I totally hated that had Ving Rhames in it. He does not disappoint here and has some of the best lines in the movie and plays the type of role that suits him best: cool but intense. His character saves this movie for me. Without it, I would’ve probably left with a negative impression.
This is a movie I recommend but just barely. The visuals, including Zeta-Jones’ butt, along with a lot of neat plot twists make this one worth seeing. It’s also the type of movie that a date will be able to enjoy with you without rolling her eyes, just don’t get caught making grunting noises under your breath during the scenes with Catherine crawling around on all fours. We would’ve liked this movie alot better with a slightly quicker pace, some explosions and especially if we got to see Catherine Zeta-Jones naked.
Seen it? How many stars do you give it?
