One of the most accurate WWII movies ever filmed! Right Alex?

Ok, I just defended the historical accuracy of GLADIATOR, somewhat.

But I will be less forgiving on this. Go 2000 years back, and I'll allow some looseness. Go 55 years back, and I'm more critical.

Having read about how the actual Nazi Enigma codes were recovered (by Brits), this made up history kind of bothered me.

Also, having a black guy on the submarine crew.... just silly.

I guess my point is, there's enough REAL or close to real WWII tales that could be told (SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, for example, while not real, is kind of like TITANIC, it's fictional characters don't really affect the timeline). Inventing such a far stretch as the events of this movie seems silly.

Accurate? Are you nuts?!?

This movie really pissed me off with its total lack of concern for accuracy and/or common sense. With minimal money and time, you could have hired someone who knows the history and altered the story a bit to be more accurate, if not with the main plot, at least with the particulars. German destroyers roaming the open Atlantic? Wrong! Storms in the North Atlantic only having 2-3 foot waves? Not! Pre-WWII era US subs with surface Radar?!? Hell no!

I could go on and on and on, but I won't. This movie could have been *so* much better with just a little attention to detail. I feel that the director just assumes that the audience are ignorant morons that won't know or care and, while that might be true of a lot of people, it isn't true of me.

Bottom line, I found it entertaining.

It does require turning off about three quarters of the brain cells, but then alot of good movies do.

Why judge this one any more harshly than something like Top Gun?

They never billed this one as anything but action entertainment. No one claimed this was Saving Private Ryan, Patton or Tora Tora Tora.

hehehhe... thought that would get a response from you Alex.

Das Boot is a much better example of a WWII sub movie, and it's got a fantastic DD 5.1 soundtrack to boot.

Well, it ticked off the Brits...

Not that I necessarily think that's a bad thing.
