If the crowds at the theaters on opening night are any indication, this one is going to do HUGE business as well. I enjoyed it, however it didn't totally live up to expectations from where I sit. This one really came across as a setup for future sequels. There were some nice effects and good battles, but it was a bit slow to get going.

Any other opinions?

I found this movie to be fantastic. I read the comics years ago and watched the cartoon every Saturdy and while I was in the theatre watching those two demensional characters come to life on the screen as flesh and blood just gave me goosebumps. Granted, I did have a few reservations but although it is different from the comic in many ways the spirit is shared between the celuloid and parchment brothers. I loved this movie. Everything just...felt right. Although it did slow down a bit to introduce the characters I found it understandable considering the movie was drawing inspiration from a comic series with over 30 years of story behind it. I found The Matrix played out the same way; slowing down in the middle for character development (no matter how deep or shallow it was) and setting up for sequels as well. I did not find it annoying in either movie. I can only pray for a director's cut on DVD because I've heard rumours Fox cut a ton of backstory out of the flick. One can only hope.
As for the fight scenes and special effects...well, they weren't the greatest or the worst. Considering the time frame Singer had to lens this thing it's understandable (I believe the original release date was Christmas this year). But despite this I still was blown away by seeing the those characters do what they do in real life. Any fight with Wolverine's claws out is good enough for me. In addition he actually stabbed characters with them too, something I thought they wouldn't do and shy away from.

I gaurantee the sequels will garner 5 star ratings from the boys here at 'Movies for Guys'.

Oh, and this movie has the worst 2 lines uttered in cinematic history, thanks to Halle Berry. UGH.

Halle Berry really was terrible, but I guess we can't blame her for those lines. However, the delivery really sucked.

"Know what happens when a Toad gets struck by lightening?" ugh is right.

I too read the comics as a kid and was greatly looking forward to this movie. Though I really would have wanted to give this movie a higher rating, in the end I agree with Billy Bob's assesment of the film. It just moved too slow to garner a higher rating.

One thing that is bothering me is Rogue. I haven't had time to pull my old issues of the comics out to confirm this, but doesn't Rogue have many more powers than just the touching thing?

I actually checked to see how some of the X-Men characters are doing these days having not touched any of their comics in at least 10 years.

Suffice to say what's going on with the various characters in the comic series is considerably different than the movie. However, that is typically the case whenever comic books are brought to the big screen. You just have to accept that the movie universe is totally different from the universe drawn on the pages of the comic book.

In the comics, Rogue *did* have more powers than what was displayed in the movies. However, in the comic books she had a lot more training and, I believe, she was a bit older, too. Per the Marvel Universe, mutants who gain their powers in or around puberty do not instantly have them all and can use them. It takes time to figure out whats under the hood. I'll bet a large sum of money that we get to see Rogue's other powers in future movies.

Rogue (from what I can remember from the cartoon) actually gets her powers of flight and strength from another woman mutant. She has the power absorbtion ability which snags it from her. What's weird is that in the movie, she only absorbs the powers for a short period of time.

Agreeing with the slowness comment and the struck-by-lighting "line" (i actually laughed at it!), but from a comic-reading gal's point of view, Wolverine and his claws are the flick! Hugh Jackman was indeed perfect for the role, with just enough attitude without acting quite as psycho as Wolverine did in the early comics. Tremendously enjoyed the fight scene between Wolverine and Mystique (in the museum). I also thought it was a great touch when Magneto pinned Wolverine to the wall with the back of his hands pointing toward his chest, so that he could not extend his claws without stabbing himself. I can't help but wonder if alot of the audience missed the significance of the moment when Logan decided to risk death at his own hands on the off chance that he would heal in time to save Rogue. Damn good flick, when's the next one? LOL
