DVD Quick Take
If you’ve never heard of this movie, chances are you aren’t going to like it. If however you are one of the people who rocked out to this thing at a midnight movie back in the 80’s, then this DVD is a must have as it is the absolute ultimate way to enjoy Heavy Metal.
The movie is actually a collection of short stories from the Heavy Metal magazine loosely bound together around the theme of this evil green glowing orb. Forget the plot, what this movie is really about is enjoying animated naked chicks and violence in a SciFi setting while rocking out to a heavy metal sound track. If that sounds cool to you, then you need this DVD.
This isn’t Disney, put Junior to bed before you watch this. When I say violence and naked chicks, I’m not kidding around. We’re talking full frontal nudity and lots of blood all set to the soothing sounds of bands like Black Sabbath.
If you don’t have Dolby Digital 5.1 capability yet, this is one of those DVDs that if you hear it on someone’s system that does, it’ll make you start calculating the remaining limits on your credit card. It just flat out rocks. You also get a ton of extras including missing scenes and a ton of Heavy Metal art. My only complaint with the DVD is that for some goofy reason it defaults to Prologic instead of Dolby Digital 5.1, and the Prologic track isn’t even in the same league as the Digital track.
Seen it? How many stars do you give it?
