Jeepers
Creepers is one of our favorite horror films from recent history.
We knew a sequel was probably inevitable, but we were very skeptical
because one of the things that made the first movie so great was
the tension building up to finding out exactly what the heck the
Creeper is. That's lost right out of the gate in Jeepers Creepers
2.
The
film starts by telling us that every 23 years, it gets to eat for
23 days. We join the action on day 22. And the Creeper is looking
for a few good meals before his time expires. News stories on the
radio lead us to the conclusion that the time period for the sequel
is later in the same feeding period of the first movie.
Character
building and dialogue are horrible in this movie even by horror
flick standards. They do at least succeed in making us not really
feel bad about it whenever one of them becomes a tasty Creeper snack.
But one of the things we really enjoyed about the first movie is
the tension created by the teenagers doing stereotypical stupid
stuff that you just know will get them killed. This time out I dont
remember even being startled once, we were just sitting around waiting
for the Creeper to come back and kill one of these kids so we could
cease listening to the inane dialogue.
We
were also ticked at the waste of an R-rating. Sure, there were some
dismemberments and such, and maybe we're just jaded, but that's
likely the only thing that prevented a PG-13. And why were there
no nubile young breasts? There were only 3 babes in the entire movie.
It was a total sausage fest. And the way these guys kept their shirts
off and violated all rules of straight male etiquette with their
urinary habits, felt almost like gay porn or something.
We
give Jeepers Creepers 2 a grand total of two stars. And the Creeper
is the only reason it earned that second star. He's still one of
the coolest bad guys we've seen in a horror film in quite a while.
Dont even bother with the second movie unless you've seen the first
one. I would almost recommend waiting and viewing both back to back
on DVD, but I fear that'll only serve to show just how much better
the original was.

Gun Play
We
see a shotgun, but he nevers get a shot off.
Blood & Gore
Could've
and should've been more with the R-rating.
Car Chases
They
drive the heck out of ratty old pickups.
T&A
An
R-rated horror movie and not a single boobie? Wuzzupwiddat?
Chuckles
A
definite lack of one liners, but the Creeper is still cool and
gets a couple of laughs without saying a word. |
