The Exorcist
Rated R
Runtime: 2hr 55min
Starring: Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Jason Miller

MFG Rating: 4/5

DVD Features

Video: Widescreen enhanced and looks good considering the age and quality of the original. However, the picture quality is very inconsitent ranging from poor to excellent. Some artifacts and other flaws are occasionally noticed.

Audio: Remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1, but most everything other than music and the occasional effect come from the center channel. There is also the occasional low frequency effect to wake up the subwoofer.

Extras: An absolute ton of them here including "making of", another featurette, tons of commentary, interviews, trailers, TV spots, trailers, production notes, etc.

DVD Quick Take

One of the alltime classic horror movies has been re-released as a 25th Anniversary Special Edition DVD. The Exorcist was groundbreaking at the time of it's release back in 1973 for it's very graphic depiction of a teenage girl, played by Linda Blair, who is possessed by Satan.

Remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1 and widescreen enhanced, this is the best way to see this movie at home. Although due to age the picture and sound quality aren't quite up to today's standards, this DVD is very good considering this is a 25 year old movie far predating all things digital.

The DVD is a must have for true fans of the movie if for no other reason than all of the extras. There are extensive pieces dealing with the making of the movie, commentary and behind the scenes stuff. Plus a really chilling piece on the true story which the book is based upon.

Gun Play

Dont shoot Satan, it just pisses him off.

Blood & Gore

Although tame by today's standards, this thing was shocking when initially released.

Car Chases

No cars, but he gives a bed hell...

T&A

Linda Blair wasn't quite ripe when this one was made.

Chuckles

You'd have to be pretty twisted to laugh at much in this movie.
