Ice Age

Ice age is by no stretch of the imagination a great movie, but it is entertaining. If you’re looking for a good date movie, this will fit the bill quite nicely, but make sure to see a late showing or you’re gonna have kids up to your armpits.

Ice Age

Basic kid-friendly storyline here. You’ve got a sloth named Sid (John Leguizamo), a mammoth named Manny (Ray Romano) who rescue a human child and decide to return the kid to his father. Along comes a tiger named Diego (Denis Leary) who volunteers to help out… but who has motives of his own.

The movie takes a bit to get cranked up, I spent the first 30 minutes hoping the movie was really short, but once it got going I really did have a good time. The story isn’t real deep as you’d expect from a kids movie, and you can spot the ending within the first 15 minutes of the movie. No big deal, it’s still fun to watch. Oh, remember the squirrel from the previews? He’s not a main character, but he does have a recurring role as he continues to look for the perfect place to hide his nut. Truly some of the best parts of the movie have the squirrel in them.

The animation is good, but not great. The humans look really odd and walk like they’ve got ice cubes shoved up their backsides. I’m sure this was an artistic decision, but after seeing the quality in Final Fantasy, it’s hard to excuse poor animation. The animals look fine though, no complaints there.

To sum up, wait for video unless you’ve got a girl to take along. If you’ve got children, you’ve already seen this at least once… just resign yourself to seeing it again and again and again.
