Knight Rider Season One

I’ll admit it, I’m quite biased in this review. But any guy who grew up watching Knight Rider every week on TV would be! My biggest fear in watching this collection is that the show wouldn’t come close to living up to the memories and would end up being a disappointment. I was worried about nothing, this show rocks even more than 20 years later!

We all know what Knight Rider is about, it’s a cop/buddy show where the buddy happens to be the car. Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT) is an advanced prototype vehicle that thinks for itself, drives itself, and has quite the attitude. The driver is Michael Knight, formally Michael Long, a detective who was almost killed when shot in the face but was rescued and given a new life and a method to fight the bad guys. Edward Mulhare is Devon, the guy left in charge of Knight Industries and is thus Michael’s boss and Patricia McPherson is Bonnie… the hot mechanic that we all wish would work on our own cars.

This collection includes the 2 hour premier episode where we’re introduced to the characters and the storyline is set up, the entire 21 episode first season and the TV movie Knight Rider 2000. Yes, the effects are a little cheesy (it was made in 1982 for goodness sakes!) and the acting might be a tad over the top on occasion, but this is the most fun I’ve had watching a DVD in awhile. I keep telling myself “just one more episode and I’ll go to bed,” and thus I’m very tired after this week. Compelling television doesn’t even begin to cover it.

If you were a fan of the show when it originally aired, go order this set now, you won’t regret it. If you’re too young to have seen it the first time around, give it a shot with an open mind and I bet you’ll be hooked.

Perfect rating. 5 stars without the slightest hesitation.
