I’m agreeing with the 4 out of 5 stars here. I would have liked to see more Viking lore displayed. Then again, I don’t think they were going for Lawrence of Arabia with this. One other interesting observation, Freya is an anglicized version of the name Freyja, who was a major Norse goddess. Since the protagonist comes from the sky, I guess we know who’s gonna hook up!

Here's a trailer for Outlander on YouTube. And it opens today in limited release in the United States. Here's a list of theaters where it's playing. So, this started me thinking about Viking movies that have been released since, oh, the 1980s. ERIC THE VIKING. THE 13th WARRIOR BEOWULF (the recent CGI one) PATHFINDER Any others I'm forgetting? OUTLANDER falls into that subgenre of Viking movies, that explore the root story behind BEOWULF (as does THE 13TH WARRIOR, based on the Michael Crichton novel EATERS OF THE DEAD, where the monsters are an unextinct tribe of Neanderthals). I remember Dark Horse comics did a Vikings vs. Alien one-shot comic book (I mean, the Ripley/Sigourney Weaver Alien).
