DVD Quick Take

Robocop is “the future of law enforcement”. This movie is almost a comic book come to life. Police officer Alex Murphy is killed in the line of duty, but his body is taken by a big conglomerate that runs the future police force and he is turned into the cyborg Robocop.

This is the original and by far the best. It was followed by several sequels and even a TV series. And this edition from the “Criterion Collection” features the original director’s cut by Paul Verhoeven. As such it takes what was already an extremely violent and bloody movie and takes it a couple of steps further. This is the type of movie that’ll make you crave red meat.

The DVD does a good job considering the age of the movie. It’s not widescreen enhanced nor does it support Dolby Digital 5.1. However, it is still very enjoyable nonetheless with a good picture quality and decent sound. If you like good shoot ‘em up, this one is another staple of any action fan’s collection.
