DVD Features

Digitally enhanced picture and sound. Remixed to Dolby Digital 5.1 surround with English subtitles available. Television preview trailers included as a bonus.

For film that was shot on a low budget back in 1966, this stuff looks amazing. The colors are rich and saturated and the remix soundtrack is great. When the red alert goes off you hear it all around you! If you are a fan of the series, you should get at least one disk just to see and hear the improvements. - John

OK, so this isn't actually a movie. It is however something that most guys who are fans of Science Fiction will be interested in so we've decided to include it here anyway.

This is classic Sci-Fi at it's best! If you are a fan of the original Star Trek series you certainly won't be disappointed with this DVD. The picture is bright and clear and is obviously the result of painstaking digital recovery work. The only parts of the show that look grainy are the space scenes, but at least the strings and overlays have been removed. The soundtrack is excellent though and has been remixed into Dolby Digital 5.1. I wish they had included the option of hearing the original soundtrack on the disk for those purists out there, but for my money I'd take the Digital version any day.

The disk contains 2 episodes, "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and "The Corbomite Maneuver." These are episodes #2 and #3. Note that Paramount is releasing the series in the order they were filmed, not in the order they we originally aired.

In "Where No Man Has Gone Before" a crewman named Gary Mitchell is the benefactor of enhanced psychic abilities after the ship comes in contact with an energy barrier. As his powers grow, Spock believes he will become a danger to the ship and thus the Captain should kill Gary while he still can. The fact that Kirk is friends with Gary makes these decisions all the more difficult.

The second episode on this disk, "The Corbomite Maneuver" starts with the Enterprise coming upon a strange cube in space. When all attempts to out run this cube fail, Kirk is forced to destroy it. This act causes a new ship to arrive, the Fesarius, a huge ship of immesuarable power bent on the destruction of the Enterprise. Captain Kirk has to think quickly to get the ship of of this jam (doesn't he always?)
