Features
Video:
Widescreen enhanced and the best picture quality we've seen
to date. No noticable flaws, this thing is simply gorgeous
visually.
Audio:
Has a Dolby Digital 5.1EX track, and it is used well. The
surround the low frequence effects are abundant, but not obnoxious
and like the video, the audio quality of this DVD is unsurpassed
by any DVD released to date.
Extras:
You get an entire second disc full of enough bonus material
to keep an avid Star Wars freak amused for days. We cant list
them all, but among the extras you'll find tons of commentary,
deleted scenes, scenes shot exclusively for the DVD, a massive
"making of" feature, and much much more.

Quick Take
Although
we definitely had our issues with Star Wars - Episode I, The Phantom
Meance (cough, Jar Jar, cough), this DVD is an absolute must have
for any fan of the Star Wars series. This is by far the highest
quality DVD we've seen. The visuals and the audio track are spectacular.
And the bonus disc contains more material than any human can possibly
go thru in a single sitting.
As
you might guess, the DVD is THX certified, and we quite frankly
found no flaws with it at all. The movie itself, well that's a different
story. We prefer a little less bubble gum and not-so-subtle efforts
to create characters designed to sell figurines to the kiddies with
our SciFi. But the Star Wars series is so beloved that fans tend
to be very forgiving of the flaws and will line up in droves to
see each new episode as it comes out no matter what. We're no different,
and the eye candy and action is spectacular in this film. And although
we would like to see Chewbacca show up and tear Jar Jar's legs off
and beat him to death with them, this DVD belongs in everyone's
collection.

Gun Play
Lasers,
light sabers and some nasty robots.
Blood & Gore
Nothing
too graphic, but at least one fight conclusion pushes the PG
rating hard.
Car Chases
You'll
have to settle for pod racing.
T&A
All
the tah tahs stay well covered.
Chuckles
We
forgot to laugh at Jar Jar. |
