Shanghai Noon

December 10, 2004

Rated: PG-13 Runtime: 105 min Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Jackie Chan really shines in this movie, even if the movie isn’t quite as good as it should have been.

Shanghai Noon

Jackie plays Chon Wang, an imperial guard for the Chinese Emperor. The princess has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom in the western United States. Chon feels somewhat responsible for the princesses fate and goes along with 3 other guards and his uncle to attempt a rescue.

Enter Owen Wilson as Roy O’Bannon, a train robbery, gang leader, outlaw wannabe. Owen does a really good job in this movie. His character is just witty enough, just smooth enough, and just silly enough to work well. His timing is great, and he and Jackie make a great team.

The action scenes are great, and once again Jackie Chan comes up with a few fight sequences that will make your jaw drop and start you laughing at the same time. His use of a rope and horse shoe isn’t to be missed!

Alas, as good as the fight sequences were, and as funny as Owen and Jackie could be, this movie moved a little too slow at times to warrant a 4 star rating. It certainly could wait for DVD without any problem, but if you’re looking for a good action/comedy to spend an evening with over the next few weeks, look no further… Shanghai Noon will certainly please.
