DVD Quick Take

Spy Game is a dramatic character piece disguised as an action/thriller. However, we enjoyed it anyway.

Robert Redford has a hell of a last day as a retiring CIA agent. One of his operatives, played by Brad Pitt, finds himself in a Chinese prison. For political reasons, the government and agency is unwilling to claim him which means he’ll be killed in 24 hours.

The story unfolds with us following the Chinese crisis in real time while the characters are introduced by way of flashbacks from Redford’s character. This makes for a very unique story that we enjoyed. Many of the flashbacks have a fair amount of action and the entire story is compelling enough to keep our attention. This is one of those movies that didn’t quite cut it at the box office but makes for a great DVD.
