DVD QuickTake

The Last Castle is a prison drama starring the legendary Robert Redford as a court martialed 3 star General. He finds himself in a prison ran in a somewhat corrupt manner by the warden portrayed by James Gandolfini of Sopranos fame. What follows is a conflict between honor with the prisoners following Redford’s character against corruption and dishonor as they rise up against the warden.

This is a great story with a stellar cast and makes for an excellent movie. The DVD is excellent with a good quality widescreen picture and your choice of audio including both a DTS and DD 5.1 track on a single disc. This is serious drama and a bit of a character piece, so do not expect a lot of big booms from the subwoofer, but the action scenes are compelling.

The DVD also includes the usual compliment of extras including some deleted scenes, commentary, trailers, production notes, making-of featurette, etc. This is a very complete disc that would make a great addition to the collection of anyone who is a fan of either Redford or Gandolfini.
