The Talented Mr. Ripley

DVD QuickTake

I was really surprised at how good this movie actually was. Matt Damon turned in an excellent performance as Tom Ripley, a poor guy from New York with an uncanny ability to imitate peoples voices and signatures. Largely due to a number of spontaneous lies, Ripley ends up in Italy trying to convince Dicky Greenleaf (Jude Law) to come back to New York at the behest of Dicky’s father.

Tom quickly befriends Dicky and instead of trying to talk him into coming back to New York, he gets involved in his privileged lifestyle and as a result doesn’t want to go back to being poor… no matter what the cost is.

I’m only giving the DVD 3 stars for a simple reason, its a bit slow. Had they edited out about 30 minutes or so it may have received a 4th star. It’s still worth watching though, just be aware of the length.

Seen it? How many stars do you give it?
